Luxcore Demonstrates Pure Optical Switch
Optical innovator Luxcore unveils all-optical lambdaXchange - a third-generation
photonic switch, delivering tangible benefits for carriers
ANAHEIM, CA, March 19, 2001
Luxcore Networks, Inc., a developer of pure optical internetworking systems, today demonstrated its lambdaXchange third generation, all-optical switching system at the Optical Fiber Communications Conference in Anaheim, California.
The lambdaXchange optical switching system uses all-optical wavelength conversion, eliminating the need for intermediate electrical conversions and regeneration within backbone transport networks.
"A technology for optically performing wavelength conversion is a necessary step in eliminating O-E-O conversions in optical networks. Luxcore is the only company I am aware of that is offering this technology." said David Krozier, Senior Analyst at RHK, Inc.
"We believe this is the world's first truly pure, all-optical switch - the cornerstone network element of the optical Internet," said Gerald Ramdeen, CEO and CTO of Luxcore. "It will enable network service providers to bring new revenue-generating services to market today, such as time-of-day routing, bandwidth-on-demand and wavelength reuse - while enjoying the lowest cost of ownership and true, unlimited scalability."
"Until today, this technology has not been considered commercially viable," Ramdeen continued. "Our unique integration of all-optical wavelength conversion, photonic switching, and add/drop and tunable DWDM transmission capabilities in a single platform delivers the promise of an all-optical network."
"Network operators are looking for ways to lower their capital and operating costs. Keeping traffic in the optical domain from beginning to end and being able to manage it while adding new services could provide carriers with significant savings," said Nancee Ruzicka, Program Manager with the Yankee Group.
