Luxcore's Pure Optical Switch Sweeps Awards at OFC

Revolutionary Wavelength Routing System Captures Both "Best of Show" and "Winner in the Category of Systems" at Optical Industry's Largest Event

ANAHEIM, CA, March 22, 2001

Luxcore Networks, Inc., a developer of pure optical internetworking systems, was awarded with Lightwave magazine's inaugural "Attendees' Choice" awards for Best of Show and Winner in the Category of Systems at the 2001 Optical Fiber Communication Conference. More than 40,000 optical networking leaders attending the conference had the opportunity to vote on the awards.

According to Lightwave, the purpose of the award selection was to indicate to the optical industry "what's hot and what's not in fiber optic technology." Attendees received a ballot and were asked to vote for one product in each of the following categories-systems, subsystems, components, test equipment, design tools and manufacturing equipment. Of the six division winners, the product with the most votes was named Best of Show.

"More than 150 products were announced or demonstrated at OFC, and the fact that our technology was singled out as not only the best in its category, but the best of the entire show, validates our vision and cutting-edge technology," said Gerald Ramdeen, CEO of Luxcore. "In addition, it further confirms our position that third-generation, pure optical networks are the future solution of choice for leading carriers."

Luxcore's lambdaXchange wavelength routing system, demonstrated publicly for the first time on Monday at OFC, uses all-optical wavelength conversion. This approach eliminates the need for intermediate electrical conversions and regeneration within backbone transport networks, translating into dramatically lower capital outlays and reduced operating costs for carriers.

David Krozier, Senior Analyst at Ryan, Hankin, Kent, Inc., recently commented, "A technology for optically performing wavelength conversion is a necessary step in eliminating O-E-O conversions in optical networks. Luxcore is the only company I am aware of that is offering this technology."

About The Optical Fiber Conference
Now in its 26th year, OFC is sponsored by the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers' Communications Society, the IEEE's Lasers and Electro-Optics Society and the Optical Society of America. This year's six-day conference took place in Anaheim, California and was attended by more than 40,000 fiber optic professionals. For more information, visit www.osa.org.
