Luxcore Adds Senior Technology Executive
to Lead Talented Pool of Engineers and Physicists

George Cagle brings nearly three decades of experience in telecommunications to fast-growing Atlanta-based optical networking company

ATLANTA, January 10, 2001 - Luxcore, a developer of optical internetworking systems, today announced the appointment of former Hitachi Telecom USA executive George Cagle as senior vice president of engineering. Cagle's 29 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, specifically in the design, development and deployment of telecommunications systems, adds a wealth of industry knowledge to the company's existing talent pool. Additionally, he holds four patents in telecommunications signal processing, and has experience in delivering Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing Systems, OC-48 and OC-192 SONET Terminals and transmultiplexers.

Cagle served as vice president of engineering and chief technology officer at Hitachi Telecom from 1997 to 2000. He was responsible for optical high-speed TDM and WDM products, and was instrumental in refocusing Hitachi's product direction and expanding its development capability for a global market.

Before joining Hitachi, Cagle spent 24 years with Alcatel Network Systems, where he served in various engineering and management positions and was responsible for designing and developing a wide variety of optical communication products. He most recently held the position of senior director for the high capacity lightwave group.

"We are excited to have someone of George's caliber join Luxcore," said Gerald Ramdeen, founder and chief executive officer of Luxcore. "The expertise he brings to the table enhances our existing top-notch team, and the fact that George chose Luxcore among numerous attractive options is a testament to our growing leadership in the industry."

"In deciding my next career move, it was important to me that I join a company with not only technology vision, but the intellectual property and expertise to make that vision a reality," said Cagle. "Luxcore is hands-down the company that is strongest on both counts and, I believe, has the ability to make true all-optical internetworking a reality in a way that no other optical manufacturer can."

Cagle graduated from Southern Methodist University with a masters of science in telecommunications systems management, and holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
