Packet switching and the Internet Protocol made distance irrelevant when it came to sharing commerce, information, and entertainment across the Internet. For the first time, everyone with access to the Internet could communicate over the global public telephone network supporting a new carrier business model based on the differentiation of service as opposed to the duration of connections or their distances.

Beginning with revolutionary advances in technology:  integrated all-optical wavelength conversion, wavelength-routing, photonic switching, tunable ultra long-haul DWDM transmission, improvements in the cable and fiber plant and optimization of transport protocols:  Ethernet, GMPLS, etc. the bandwidth limitations and high costs of technology deployment will be reduced.  Today, the new unit of bandwidth is the wavelength.  Tomorrow, it will be the optical packet.   The bridge between them will be built by flexible companies like Luxcore that understand that the key to facilitating that new paradigm is to optimize existing bandwidth and technologies.  As we wait for the optical infrastructure to supplant legacy technologies, our present goal is to develop pliable products that can harness efficiencies in existing markets while scaling to support the all-optical end game.
